1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Syllabyte ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service. We may modify these Terms at any time, and your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

2. Description of Service

Syllabyte is a free vocabulary word puzzle game available via web browser and mobile applications. The Service provides daily puzzles, multiple game modes, leaderboards, challenge features, and vocabulary-building tools. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without prior notice.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

You may use certain features of the Service without creating an account. To access additional features such as saving progress across devices, appearing on leaderboards, and challenging friends, you must create an account by providing a valid email address or using Google OAuth.

3.2 Account Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.
  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

3.3 Username Guidelines

Usernames must not contain offensive, vulgar, or discriminatory language. We reserve the right to change or remove any username that violates these guidelines or that we deem inappropriate at our sole discretion.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or computer systems.
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or other tools to interact with the Service or gain unfair advantages.
  • Manipulate scores, leaderboards, or game results through cheating or exploitation of bugs.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or misrepresent your affiliation.
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users through the Service.
  • Collect or store personal data about other users without their consent.
  • Use the Service for commercial purposes without our written permission.

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Our Content

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Syllabyte and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws. This includes but is not limited to the game design, puzzles, word lists, graphics, user interface, and code.

5.2 Limited License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. This license does not include the right to copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service.

6. User Content

"User Content" includes any content you create or submit through the Service, such as usernames, game results, and challenge links. By submitting User Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and display such content in connection with operating and improving the Service.

You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to submit User Content and that it does not violate any third-party rights or these Terms.

7. Leaderboards and Social Features

By participating in ranked play or using social features, you acknowledge that your username and scores may be publicly visible on leaderboards and through challenge links. We reserve the right to remove users from leaderboards or disable accounts that we believe are engaging in cheating or other violations of these Terms.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by Syllabyte. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services. You acknowledge and agree that we shall not be responsible or liable for any damage or loss caused by your use of such third-party services.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SYLLABYTE AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Syllabyte and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

12. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including but not limited to a breach of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. You may also delete your account at any time through the Service or by contacting us.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts located within the United States.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid, illegal, or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid, legal, and enforceable while preserving its original intent.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Syllabyte regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings, whether written or oral, regarding the Service.
